Research tells us that professional moms should consider prioritizing self-care and time for themselves. This is an important time to note that self-care isn’t just watching Netflix and having spa days. Seeking additional support from family and friends, setting boundaries, and learning effective time management skills are all forms of self-care too! In this article, our team shares a few blogs and podcasts that might be helpful for professional moms.
Moms & Mental Health
Mental health for moms? What does that mean? Mental Health is defined by the World Health Organization as “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.” Now imagine adding that to the amount of things a mother needs to do for herself… You know, on top of teaching and regulating those things for the other human beings moms are responsible for. Moms and professional moms are often held to impossible standards and harsh judgements. According to Dr. Ashley Garrett, PhD, LPCS, “Professional moms face a plethora of barriers in the workforce. Childcare responsibilities, employer bias, lack of support and resources, gender wage gap, and confidence and self-doubt are just a few. Mental and physical wellness can be two of the first things that moms sacrifice when stress gets high.”

Being a mom is a job within itself, and there will be times moms don’t respond the best way or effectively handle a situation. But, guess what?! Every mom has those days and will continue to have those experiences. One suggestion from Counselor Jessica is “remember to put your breathing mask on first and then your child’s/children’s mask on second.” In order for you to be the best resource for your child and aid in their survival, you have to be equipped, level headed, and present to do so.
