Why Choose Garrett Counseling – Boaz?
Our Boaz location is a Certified AutPlay Therapy Provider and an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP). Our AutPlay certification means that we have a therapeutic approach proven to address the needs of neurodivergent children and their families. With our ADHD certification, we are able to provide quality care for those with ADHD, as well as ADHD assessments for children, teens, and adults. Play Therapy is a passion of our team, as we see the benefits it provides to children, teens, and adults. Because of that passion, all of our counselors are trained at Level II Sandtray for both children and adults. At Garrett Counseling in Boaz, AL, our counselors will meet you where you are and walk alongside you on your journey to mental wellness and healthy relationships.
Our Boaz counseling team specializes in several therapeutic approaches, and they will customize your treatment to meet your unique needs. Some of the counseling methods our team uses include:
For clients who desire a counseling experience that incorporates their Christian faith, we have counselors on our team trained to provide a clinical setting that combines spiritual and psychological principles.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a common form of talk therapy. With CBT, clients will work with their counselor to uncover negative thinking and work to view circumstances in a healthier way. CBT is used to treat a variety of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is another form of talk therapy that is based on CBT. DBT is commonly used with people who intensely experience emotions. Much like CBT, DBT can be used to treat depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a form of psychotherapy that helps clients heal from experiencing traumatic or disturbing experiences. EMDR is most commonly used with clients experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Family Systems Therapy is a form of psychotherapy dedicated to helping clients with concerns that stem from family. The family will work – individually and collectively – to address concerns that impact one or all of the family unit’s members.
Motivational Interviewing is a form of therapy used to assist clients in gaining the motivation they need to change their behavior. Motivational interviewing can be beneficial for clients facing a wide range of changes including smoking, health care, and breaking free from harmful habits.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is a therapy primarily used for children with behavioral problems. With PCIT, the parent, with the guidance of the counselor, is very involved in the therapy sessions.
Play Therapy (Available for children, teens, AND adults)
Play Therapy is a form of therapy where play is the primary method of communication. At Garrett Counseling in Boaz, AL, we believe play can benefit clients of all ages – even adults! Play therapy can be beneficial in treating behavioral problems, anxiety, depression, trauma, and more. Play therapy incorporates toys, games, role-playing, and other elements in the sessions. Garrett Counseling is a Certified AutPlay Therapy providing making us specially trained to work with neurodivergent clients and their families.
Sandplay Therapy (All counselors at our Boaz location are trained at Level Two Sandtray for working with adults and children)
Sandplay Therapy incorporates the use of sand and toy figures in the therapy sessions. The client will use the figures to create scenes in the sandtray, and the scenes and figures serve as a way for the client to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and understanding of their world. Sandtray can be especially beneficial for clients who have experienced trauma, as well as those with depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns. Much like Play Therapy, Sandtray is beneficial for clients of all ages – including adults!
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)/Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a unique method of therapy that puts the focus on a client’s current and future moments, rather than a client’s past.
Trauma Focused Therapy
Trauma Focused Therapy focuses on the impact experiencing trauma can have a client’s overall health. This method of therapy will help provide client’s with healthier coping skills and healthier methods of processing their trauma.
