Ben Lighter, MA, ALC

Location(s): Huntsville

Ben joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2021, but he has been working in the mental health field for over 3 years! He is an Associate Licensed Counselor (#C3775A) under the supervision of Megan Campbell (#3120). He completed his undergraduate degree at Bethany College and his Master’s in Professional Counseling at Amridge University.

Ben enjoys working with preteens, teens, and young adults, helping them through the transitions that those ages bring. He likes to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but with a developmental twist. Ben says, “Once we’ve worked on challenging faulty thinking, I like to work with the client to identify where it comes from and how it has shaped them today. I also like to sprinkle in some improv games! It allows clients to feel more relaxed and open to change.”

A few interesting facts to help you get to know Ben better: His favorite books include "A Land More Kind Than Home" by Wiley Cash, "This Dark Road To Mercy" by Wiley Cash, and "Feeling Good" by David D. Burns. He also enjoys the Muppet movies because he connects with how Fozzie Bear is a fiercely loyal friend, always there to help those he cares about, and makes endearingly bad dad jokes.
