Counselor Ja’Vae, LPC

Ja’Vae joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2024, but she has been in the mental health field for over 4 years. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC05299). Ja’Vae received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Jacksonville State University and her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Alabama A&M University.

Ja’Vae enjoys working with teens and adults experiencing life transitions, high achieving individuals, and clients with mood disorders. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as cinema and music techniques. Ja’Vae says, “I collaborate with clients in identifying how fiction and music can sometimes be associated with real life experiences and provide examples for how our thoughts influence our behavior. Relating to art and fiction can help clients see that they, in fact, are not isolated in their issues.”

Ja'Vae practices wellness by traveling, creating a balanced diet, and exercising. She doesn't have any pets currently, but she says she hopes to have a toy poodle one day! Her favorite books include "We're Going To Need More Wine" by Gabrielle Union, the "True To The Game" series by Teri Woods, "Boundaries" by Henry Cloud, and "Surviving Mama" by Pamela Everett Thompson. Ja'Vae finds a special connection with Melody Barnett from "The Game" because Melody stood for something regardless of how others felt about it.
