Counselor Tanya, EdS, LPC, AADC

Tanya joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2025, but she has been in the mental health field for almost 12 years. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (AADC). She has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice – Corrections, Master of Science in Community Agency Counseling, and an Education Specialist in Clinical Mental Health – all from Jacksonville State University.

Tanya enjoys working with clients experiencing substance use concerns, as well as young adult females (20s-40s) and older teenagers (15+). She typically uses person-centered and positivity approaches to counseling and says, “I believe that every person is their own person and deserves to be treated as such. I also lean heavily on gratitude and reflection and a general glass-half-full mentality.”

Highlights -
Tanya practices wellness by attending church services, painting, reading, journaling, and listening to music. She also has a calico cat and two dogs. Tanya's favorite books are "A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer, the "Harry Potter" series by JK Rowling, and "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk. She finds a special connection with Dolores Price in the novel "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb. Tanya says "This lady faces a lot of personal troubles and hardships, but yet she still gets up in the morning with the desire and the will to help others, even when she, herself, is still struggling."
