Counselor Jo-Anne, LICSW, MSW, B.Ed. B.Sc.

Jo-Anne joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2023, but she has been working as a counselor for over 3 years. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. She has a Masters of Social Work from the University of Alabama.

Jo-Anne enjoys working with all age groups, but she has extensive experience working with teenagers. She also has experience working with those who have experienced foster care, sexual abuse, physical abuse, parental neglect, among other sources of trauma and anxiety disorders. Jo-Anne says, “My approach to counseling involves putting a client at ease, contextualizing the issues they are experiencing, and starting from a place where they are comfortable.” She also has extensive training in EMDR and is accepting new patients at our Albertville/Boaz location.

Jo-Anne practices wellness by spending time outdoors, being with her dogs, gardening, and cycling. She has has four dogs (two of which are therapy dogs), one cat, one fish, and a flock of backyard birds. A few interesting facts to help you get to know Jo-Anne better: Her favorite books include "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell, "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett, and "Unwinding Anxiety" by Judson Brewer. She finds a special connection with the wife of the veterinarian on the TV show, "All Creatures Great and Small." Jo-Anne says, "The wife is a strong, sensitive, family-oriented, centered, responsible, and supportive individual who encourages her husband and their friends and family to reach their full potential. This character is relatable to me because she embodies aspects of my own or idealized appearance that I strive for on a daily basis."
