Counselor Kara, LPC, CMHC

Kara joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2022, but she has been working in the mental health field for over 4 years! She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (#4676). She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Bethany College and a Master’s degree is Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University.

Kara enjoys working with older adolescents, adults, and those with trauma/PTSD, anxiety, and depression. She uses Client Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma Informed Therapy. Kara says, “These approaches are demonstrated by a strong therapeutic alliance, sensitive to the needs of trauma survivors.”

Kara practices wellness by reading, hiking, and spending time outdoors. She has a 10 year old village dog from Alaska named Bear who travels everywhere with her. A few interesting facts to help you get to know Kara better: Her favorite books include "Atomic Habits" by James Clear, "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius, and "Focus and Thrive: Executive Functioning Strategies Tools to Get Organized and Plan Ahead and Achieve Your Goals" by Laurie Chaikind McNulty. Kara finds a special connection with Lionel Logue in the "King's Speech." She says this connection is because "I'm willing to walk alongside others as they pursue their goals, and I'm a bit peculiar."
