LaTasha Toney, LICSW, PIP

LaTasha joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2022, but she has worked in different areas of mental health throughout her career and began working in therapy-related settings in 2014! She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a Private Independent Practitioner (PIP – #3963C). She has a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from the University of Alabama – Birmingham and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Alabama.

LaTasha enjoys working with young adults and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, etc. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She likes to get a history regarding the clients or couples she is working with to look for patterns. She works to help clients and couples recognize patterns and learn new ways to show up in the world. She uses Dialectal Behavioral Therapy approaches to help people to have more effective relationship with others, practice mindfulness, manage stress and regulate their emotions.

LaTasha practices wellness by journaling, baking, listening to podcasts, and seeing her own therapist. She also considers herself a proud plant parent! A few interesting facts to help you get to know LaTasha better: Her favorite books include "Let the Circle Be Unbroken" by Mildred L Taylor, "The Gift of Imperfection" by Brene Brown, and "Set Boundaries Find Peace" by Nedra Glover Tawwab. She also enjoys the movie "Where The Crawdads Sing," because she finds a special connection with the Marsh Girl. LaTasha says, "So many people targeted the Marsh Girl and made her an outcast, but they all ended up being in the wrong. I think that society can be harsh on those who might have behaviors who are different from the norm. I like to embrace those who feel like they don't fit in and help them to learn to be comfortable with who they are."
