Kara joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2022, but she has been working in the mental health field for over 4 years! She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (#4676) in the state of Alabama and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (#11121637-6004) in the state of Utah. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Bethany College and a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University.

When asked about her passion, Kara said, “As a mental health counselor with a passion for supporting clients in their weight management and weight loss journey, I bring a unique blend of professional expertise and lived experience to guide you toward lasting change. Utilizing psychological interventions, I empower clients to achieve their goals through incremental, realistic steps tailored to their individual needs and circumstances. My approach focuses on fostering a healthy mindset, building sustainable habits, and addressing the emotional and psychological factors that influence weight management. With compassion and evidence-based strategies, I’m here to help you navigate your path to a healthier, more confident you. Let’s work together to create meaningful, lasting results.”

Kara also enjoys working with older adolescents, adults, and those with trauma/PTSD, anxiety, and depression. She uses Client Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma Informed Therapy.

Kara practices wellness by reading, hiking, and spending time outdoors. She has a 10 year old village dog from Alaska named Bear who travels everywhere with her. Kara finds a special connection with Lionel Logue in the "King's Speech." She says this connection is because "I'm willing to walk alongside others as they pursue their goals, and I'm a bit peculiar."
