Counselor Maegen, M.Ed, LPC

Maegen joined the Garrett Counseling team in 2022, but she has been working in the mental health field for over 2 years! She is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from the University of Montevallo.

Maegen enjoys working with teens, adults, the LGBTQIA+, and those dealing with PTSD/trauma. She uses Adlerian Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Interactive & Prescriptive Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Maegen says, “These approaches show up in my session through the concept of viewing the client as the expert on themselves.”

Maegen practices wellness by engaging in self-care, cleaning and organizing, connecting with friends and family, unplugging from her phone, and binge watching tv shows and movies. A few interesting facts to help you get to know Maegen better: Her favorite books include "All Good People Here" by Ashley Flowers, "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" by John Boyne, and "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel Van Der Kolk. Maegen finds a special connection with Phoebe and Rachel from "Friends." She says, "If you were to mix Phoebe and Rachel, that would be me in a nutshell because Phoebe is resilient and still keeps a positive outlook, while Rachel is quirky in her own way and has confidence in that."
