Program Content Description:
This training will explore in depth the history of play therapy in the field of mental health.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Summarize current research findings on the relationship between sleep, emotional regulation, and mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. (NBCC Content Area: Human Growth and Development)
- Identify at least five modifiable behavioral, environmental, and cognitive contributors to sleep difficulties using evidence-based frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). (NBCC Content Area: Counseling Theory/Practice)
- Differentiate between common sleep-related conditions (e.g., insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, circadian rhythm disorders) and poor sleep hygiene, and articulate appropriate referral guidelines. (NBCC Content Areas: Assessment; Counseling Theory/Practice)
- Demonstrate three or more evidence-based strategies for improving sleep hygiene that counselors can integrate into treatment planning, including stimulus control, relaxation training, and psychoeducation. (NBCC Content Areas: Counseling Theory/Practice; Wellness and Prevention)
- Apply developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive sleep interventions across different age groups and populations within a counseling setting. (NBCC Content Areas: Human Growth and Development; Wellness and Prevention)
- Incorporate sleep-related screening questions or assessment tools into clinical practice to identify and monitor sleep hygiene as part of holistic client care. (NBCC Content Areas: Assessment; Counseling Theory/Practice)
