Program Content Description:

Effective October 1, 2025, Alabama Senate Bill 101 changes when minors can give consent for medical and mental health treatment. Counselors across school, agency, and private practice settings must understand how this law impacts their work with children and adolescents.

This highly practical training will review the changes, clarify who is affected, and highlight the exceptions where counselors may provide services without parent permission. Participants will leave with the knowledge and tools they need to update policies, adjust intake processes, and document consent in compliance with SB 101.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the new age of consent for counseling in Alabama.
  • Differentiate between affected and unaffected counseling contexts.
  • Apply the exceptions where parental consent is not required.
  • Implement best practices for documentation and parent communication.
